Here, Lars Eckardt and Günter Breithardt, of the University of Münster, Germany, give their opinions on the first results of the Alternans Before Cardioverter Defibrillator (ABCD) trial, presented at the AHA 2006 meeting in Chicago, IL, USA. This trial evaluated the efficacy of microvolt T-wave alternans (MTWA) in targeting ICD therapy to patients at risk from sudden cardiac death.
