'Diabulimia' eating disorder 'extremely dangerous' for diabetics

Young diabetic women may be putting their health at risk by skipping insulin jabs in order to lose weight, charity Diabetes UK has warned. One in three female Type 1 diabetes sufferers aged under 30 withhold their own medication, according to a study conducted in Oxford in 1999. Type 1 diabetes sufferers need to inject themselves with insulin several times daily to keep their blood sugars at the requisite level. The practice, dubbed diabulimia, can tip diabetes sufferers into a diabetic coma
