The use of B-type natriuretic peptides (BNP) for diagnosing heart failure has been an exciting development, although the adoption into clinical practice has been slow. Here, Dr. Kevin Goode, Dr. Milos Kubanek, and Professor John GF Cleland, from Castle Hill Hospital, Kingston-upon-Hull, UK, discuss the roles and limitations of BNP measurement as a diagnostic tool.
